Whew! It only took us 24 hours, but we’ve finally landed back in the States! Christina and I are in DC right now with her mom, and only freaked out a couple of times as Carol was driving on a different side of the road than we’ve been driving on for the past nine months. Our flights were relatively uneventful, save the last-minute rescue that was needed to get Bree, our student that was travelling back with us, on the flight in PE (thank you, Hencor!!).
But we’re here until next weekend, and we’re looking forward to some quiet days of reconnecting back with this country. For us, “reconnecting” looks like getting our phones turned back on, putting Starbucks back into our diet (well, MY diet, anyway), and visiting RFK stadium to see the Nats take on the Dodgers. Can’t get more American than that, eh?
Christina and I are also intending on spending some great time over the next week or so doing some debriefing of our own. We were very intentional about making sure our students did it, but realized that we really didn’t practice what we preached. So we’re looking forward to taking some time away and looking at how the Lord changed us individually, not to mention as a couple. What do our lives look like now? What does this country look like now? And, most importantly, what does God look like to us now? In order to come into next year effectively, as well as finish this year effectively, we need to make sure that we leave no stone unturned when it comes to asking those tough questions, knowing that the search for answers will always lead us to the glory of God.
Nevertheless, in the next couple of days, we’re hoping to have some pictures up to look at from our debrief trip to Cape Town, a city that has quickly risen to one of the top places to visit in your lifetime. But, for now, it’s time for a little R&R (and Chili’s, and Chipotle, and Houston’s, and…)
Stay tuned for more adventures from our crazy summer in the States!
